ESCAP participating in ITU Telecom World 2016

The global ICT community is gathering 14-17 November in Bangkok for the ITU Telecom World 2016. Guests at this event include Heads of State and Ministers, Heads of UN Agencies, Regulators and industry leaders. Some of the key areas discussed are collaboration in the digital economy, the role of tech-SMEs and innovative investment for global connectivity.

ICT & DRR Gateway at the ITU Telecom World 2016During the four days of the event, specific sessions will delve into an exciting set of topics such as artificial intelligence, how ICTs can meet the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), intelligent transport systems and autonomous (driverless) vehicles, digital financial inclusion and fintech and financial incentives to invest in the global roll out of ICT infrastructure, collaborative innovation and the tech-SME ecosystem.

Particularly relevant to the topic of enhancing ICT infrastructure in Asia and the Pacific, ESCAP is promoting the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway initiative, which aims to be a catalyst to develop seamless regional broadband networks which improve affordability, reliance, resilience and coverage and thereby narrow the digital divide, develop the Internet ecosystem, support the implementation of the SDGs and stimulate digital economy in Asia and the Pacific.
