Terai is a low-lying region in Northwestern India and Southern Nepal. For years, the area has been affected by recurring floods, resulting in loss of lives. Christian Aid, with its local partner Poorvanchal Gramin Vikas Sansthan (PGVS), initiated a pilot flood early warning system in the Terai region.

The system monitors the water level in the upstream at Chisapani in Nepal using information from the department of hydro meteorology, Government of Nepal. This information is also shared with Indian counterparts. Community groups in both countries are equipped with an electronic display machine, which reflects information in real time. The system is also equipped with an Alert Alarm System that will be activated based on the water level in Nepal.
